Reserve the Future ("the campaign", "we", "us") is an independent civic advocacy campaign for reservation reform in India. This page explains, plainly, what information we collect through this website and what we do with it.

1. What we collect

  • Membership sign-up: name, city, state, and email address.
  • Petition signatures: name, city, state, and — only if you choose to provide them — email and phone number.
  • Contact form: name, email address, subject, and your message.
  • Live chat: the display name you choose and the messages you post. Chat messages are public and visible to every visitor by design.
  • Technical data: basic request data (like IP address) is temporarily used for spam and abuse prevention (rate limiting), and is not stored long-term or linked to your profile.

2. What we use it for

  • Generating your digital membership ID card.
  • Recording and displaying petition signatures (name and city only are ever shown publicly).
  • Sending a one-time email verification link, if email verification is enabled, to confirm your email is real.
  • Responding to messages sent through the contact form.
  • Preventing spam and abuse of the chat, petition, and membership systems.

3. What we don't do

  • We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.
  • We do not share your email or phone number publicly under any circumstance.
  • We do not use your data for anything beyond what's described on this page.

4. Where your data lives

Data submitted through this site is stored on the campaign's own server infrastructure. If email verification is enabled, a third-party email delivery service (an SMTP provider such as Gmail or a transactional email service) is used solely to deliver that one verification email — it does not retain your other membership details.

5. How long we keep it

We retain membership, petition, and contact records for as long as the campaign is active, so the petition and membership counts remain accurate and verifiable. You can request deletion of your personal data at any time (see Section 7).

6. Cookies and local storage

This site uses your browser's local storage (not tracking cookies or third-party ad trackers) to remember things like your chat display name and whether you've already seen the welcome popup, purely to make your experience smoother. This data stays on your device.

7. Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time by writing to us through the Contact page. We will act on reasonable requests promptly.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes meaningfully, we'll update the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
